Summer Fields

Posted by
GJC (Kyoto, Japan) on 22 July 2014 in Landscape & Rural.

We've had a good deal of rain, so the fields are vibrant green in the small village of Ohara. The red leaves in the foreground are "shiso" plants, an edible saw-tooth leaf that is slightly spicy; the plant is related to mint, or so I've been told. You have probably encountered its green version if you've ever eaten at a sushi restaurant.

Shiso is very strong plant. Green one grows in my garden, though I did not plant it.
