We took our daughter to a special festival called "shichi-go-san," which translates literally as seven-five-three. Young children of those ages go to the Shinto shrine to be blessed and to thank the gods for their health and progress. Our daughter turned three in the fall, so we took her to the festival at Yasaka Shrine and she and her mother got dressed up in kimono (see Mom in previous photo). Here we are at the hairdresser's, where Mom is getting her hair done and our daughter is watching with great interest. I'll post some more from the day later.
