Greetings 「ご挨拶」

Posted by
GJC (Kyoto, Japan) on 13 May 2013 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

This week I will post some photos from a tea ceremony gathering (called a chakai) held at Kennin-ji Temple on the fifth of most months. I did not join because I was intimidated: it was for real veterans. But I hope you, too, will enjoy the parade of pros and their beautiful kimono.

These women are exchanging greetings at the entrance gate, and the sign there announces the name of the day's host. This gate has special memories for me. My now-wife invited me many years ago to my first chakai and we met here. I was so excited! I appreciate her many years of sharing her knowledge and appreciation of Japan's tea culture.
