A wonderful image of this child and an adult. Beautiful golds and red!
Am I correct in guessing that the prayer/reverence takes place outside the shrine, rather than entering a 'house of worship'?

@Judy aka L@dybug: In this case, yes you are correct. At a Shinto shrine you normally do not enter the building except on particularly special occasions, such as a wedding or a birth. Usually you stand outside the main shrine building, ring a bell (you see the bell rope tied up here because there was a wedding inside and they didn't want to disturb the wedding ceremony with the constant clanging of the bell) and then you throw a small amount of money (5 or 10 cents is most common) in the box immediately in front and make your prayer.
Fantastic colours in your image! I love the mood too!*****

Thank you so much for your interesting information. I am always fascinated by the worship practices of those in distant places in our world.

I think you chose a good title for this image. I never knew that about a Shinto shrine. Images showing respect for the sacred has a way of moving us. Thanks.

Perfect title. This image made me stop and reflect.
I hope that someday, when life is less hectic, you have a show of some of your fabulous photos. Or, make a book out of them.
