Kyoto Commuter

Posted by
GJC (Kyoto, Japan) on 31 October 2012 in People & Portrait.

This kind of kimono is called a kurotomesode (黒留袖) and is a very formal kind worn only by married women, and most commonly by the mother of the bride or groom at a wedding ceremony. The bright, gold obi belt also suggests that this mother is about to see her child off into wedded life.
