Rice Harvest

Posted by
GJC (Kyoto, Japan) on 19 September 2012 in Landscape & Rural.

I am always deeply impressed by the amount of back-breaking labor that goes into growing rice, and I have featured that very often (see for example here, and here and here).
Of course luckily for the farmers, much of the hardest part of planting and harvesting is done by machines like this harvester. The blue bags in the foreground are the cleanly picked rice just off-loaded from the machine making its way around the field.

The blue bags look like smiling! I like the deep colour in the foreground and the rest of the scene in bokeh. Nice focus!

Considerate them to use photo ready blue bags, an image that tells the story. best…jf

I like your 'rice' photos.
I know it can be difficult to give time and it is very easy to spend it on the blog but as 'ordinary images' says - the words aren't so important but just keep posting when you can. I like these 'postcards from Japan'.

I'm smiling after reading Rick's comment about your "postcards from Japan" ... and fully agree.
This is a fantastic image with selective focus. I like that human backs are not paying the 'price' for the harvesting in this field. Having a bad back myself, I ache when I think of the work they do do by hand.

Excellent focus on the bags, fantastic blue ! Here we are, the whole cycle seems to reach its end ! It's fascinating for me!

I especially love your images that depict the "traditional" Japan, but it is nice to see that the backbreaking labor of working the rice-crops is being made easier. I love the colors in this image- such a great contrast!

I don't remember seeing these bags in your photos before. Glad to learn one more step in the harvesting process. Farming is back-breaking work!

What a contrast that harvester is to the behemoths we have here. But, it fits the fields in Japan just fine, I'm sure. I like the focus and DOF.
