Rainy Season, 2

Posted by
GJC (Kyoto, Japan) on 3 June 2011 in Landscape & Rural.

The rainy season is upon us. In Kyoto we do not get monsoon kinds of rains, but, rather, steady rain that falls all day. Since Iwakura is so close to the mountains, I am always enchanted by the way the low clouds in the rainy season roll and play around the peaks and valleys. It always makes me think that the old artists who painted only in blank ink (a style called sumi-e; 墨絵) actually were quite masterful at getting the feeling of a rainy day in the mountains.
