The older they get, the more present they are in gardens and fields!! I wonder what their secret might be????I can never do it because I simply never did it! And NOW it makes me think of all those farmers in Tohoku who would love to go out and tend to their fields, BUT....they have no such field anymore...Only their fingers aching TO DO the job...

@Japanalia: Beautifully said. Certainly here as well, ALL the people you see cultivating the fields are in the 60s or much older. It truly makes me wonder, not only about their incredible stamina, but about the future of farming in Japan. And what you say of Tohoku had not occurred to me, but how sad that is indeed.
