It must be cold to leave the doors open! Seeing the snow on the branches indicates a windless day. I like how it reaches into the frame.

@Ian Smith: Thanks. Yes it is cold. Very cold. That's why I was saying on an earlier post that Japanese Buddhist temples are best appreciated on a cold winter day with no heat. There is something bracing and beautiful about it.
Reminds me of the Vatican flag but it is a long way from home !

@Ronnie 2¢: Thank you. Yes, that would be several thousand miles and a different deity off! But then again the similarities are equally intriguing to contemplate... I confess that I have never discovered the meaning of these multi-colored banners that are often hung at festive times on Japanese Buddhist temples. I am sure the answer isn't hard to find, but I have never looked into it.
Love the combination of colors and lines!

Oh. What a beautiful composition! I can also imagine the silence in this temple(?). Does it snow a lot in Kyoto?

@Zus: Thanks for the visit. We have had more snow this winter than I have ever seen, especially in the northern area of Kyoto where I live, called Iwakura (岩倉). It has already snowed more this winter than any other winter I have seen. It's been wonderful!
I love the contrast of the snowy branch against the warm colors of the flags! Just beautiful!

I like the minor part the snow plays in this one. It's impact is felt more because of it.

This is a beautiful composition. And it is surprising to see the snowy branch in front of the brightly colored fabric in the open door. That surprise and contrast makes for a superb shot. Bravo.

Beautiful colorful picture, simple and pure.

The snow is beautiful how it sits on the branch like that. One tap or a slight wind blow, beauty is lost. Nice shot.

This is a stunning composition. Great eye. Very Japanese, like an architectural ikebana display, of sorts.
