Starry Carpet

Posted by
GJC (Kyoto, Japan) on 15 December 2010 in Plant & Nature.

In Japan the autumn leaves are appreciated as much for their beauty once they have fallen as for when they are on the tree. This is called "ochiba" (落ち葉) and when they cover the ground like in this photo it is called "ochiba no jutan" (落ち葉の絨毯), or the "carpet of fallen leaves." I think they are most beautiful on a rainy day -- like this one -- when their color intensifies.
