The layers of colours is lovely, GJC. But I'd like to know - it looks like she's harvesting/collecting caladium. The folks in the villages collect the big green caladium which is chopped and boiled to make food for the pigs. My mum used to collect these, and I had to cut them after I was done with homework when I was a kid growing up in the village.

@EstherK Borneo: Thanks for your interesting comment! This is actually taro (called satoimo in Japanese) and the root is usually boiled and eaten, or sometimes is finely grated and eaten that way. I love the way the plant looks, but I confess I don't much care for the texture of the root either boiled or grated...
