A maiko (舞子; a woman apprenticed to become a geisha) takes a stroll down an old Kyoto lane.
I must say I'm extremely proud of catching this because I am the world's slowest photographer. A painter could take a scene on canvas faster than I can with the camera. However, I saw this lovely apparition from some distance and immediately found myself a good spot, took a few test shots of the background to get the light right so that by the time she approached all I had to do was take a few photos. Hooray for me!
Dreams of Miyako (都の夢想) is part of an on-going series that celebrates contemporary echoes of the 1,000 years during which Kyoto was Japan's Imperial capital (miyako) from 794 to 1869. To see others in the series, click on the tag "miyako" or "都".
