@Steve Rice: Thanks for the visit. Fortunately, this shrine is not abandoned, and in fact is quite well maintained. But the neighborhood around it has certainly changed a great deal and it is now surrounded by towering apartment complexes.

For me, the laundry add the extra special element--showing the old withing the new. My eye went from bottom to laundry to top--a nice progression.

Another good take on contrasting the OLD with the NEW...point is, I very much prefer the OLD, even a bit derelict, 'cause the NEW doesn't offer any visual delight.
