I don't want to look silly with this question but do the hats of the ladies have an historical origin or are they recent and strictly practical ?

I love this! It is such a universal scene. I live in the Pajaro Valley in California which is a huge agricultural area- this is a scene I see often, and you've done a wonderful job of capturing it! I love that they all seem to be looking out over their field, in a protective and proud way.

It looks like the cut rice is taking a rest too. It must be hard work. How funny that the women are all wearing some sort of floral pattern and the two have matching hats!

The people are so colorful amidst the gray and gold. I'd love to have one of those hats.
