à la Gainsborough

Posted by

This scene strongly reminded me of work by the great English landscape painter Thomas Gainsborough, I think because of the slanting, golden quality of the light and the billowy shapes in the trees. I was particularly thinking of a painting I love, "Mr. And Mrs. William Hallett, (The Morning Walk)" painted in 1785 (click on the picture in the link to get a beautiful larger size). But on looking at that painting again I see that the light is much bluer than I remember. Oh well.
