Winter Garden: Enkoji Temple (圓光寺)

Posted by
GJC (Kyoto, Japan) on 19 February 2009 in Lifestyle & Culture.

Enkoji Temple was established in 1601 just outside of Kyoto in Fushimi (伏見) under orders of the first Tokugawa Shogun, and moved to its present location in the Ichijoji area of northeastern Kyoto in 1667. It is now part of the Rinzai school (臨済宗) of Japanese Zen Buddhism.

This photo does not at all convey just how beautiful and tranquil Enkoji temple is.
