Summer Rice Field, 7

Posted by
GJC (Kyoto, Japan) on 11 August 2008 in Landscape & Rural.

This is the last of the summer rice series. Today I deliberately focused the camera on the wall, so that the rice would become almost an abstract field of color. The Nikon d300 does greens exceptionally well and so I thought I'd take advantage of that. (I think it's interesting how we work in cooperation with our cameras, finding subjects it likes and learning to see our own visions through what our cameras like.)
Thanks to all who wrote such kind and encouraging comments on this summr rice field series. It is, as I'm sure all you photo bloggers already know, wonderful to receive such helpful and thoughtful feedback. Thanks to all. I'm sure we'll revisit these fields as harvest nears . . .

Beautiful composition, that green rectangle with its structure! Seems as if it points towards the farmhouse topping it wonderfully, a picture by itself.

So lush. I am wondering about how high the rice is? I just want to walk through all of that green!

I like this one too much , especially the sense that the unfocused green in front gives to me .

Nice picture and contrast of that house with the green rice. The rice seems nearly to be a garden. I was surprised to see some rice pads amoung the houses in little towns when I came to Japan.

I look at this image and I find myself thinking..."how green is my valley", though I know it is not a valley in this case!

I think I never have seen such a green (except for cat grass in small pots). Beatiful and relaxing image well composed.

great texture - really like the almost tactile sense of the rice.

I just got a d300 - it arrived yesterday and I haven't yet put the lens on it - am really looking forward to its great colours and control of the exposure curve.
