If I could, I would add the sound of the cicada (蝉) which always makes a Kyoto summer feel even hotter. It's the sound of heat.
the photo realy has a sense of silences found in mid afternoons specially when I was a kid not going to school in summer ! the branches at the top have given the phhoto a nice feeling , seems like a high ceiling or seems like your are so small , maybe magnifying that sense of childhood .

I was just thinking that yesterday, here in Maryland! The cicada has a way of making it seem at least 5 degrees hotter. And for insects, they sure are loud! Gorgeous shot of the shrine tucked away under the blankets of trees. Your greens are always so lush!

Very cozy little shrine you found. And I love the foliage of those trees! Do you know the name of that kind of tree? Since I left Japan I have been looking for it at home but haven't found it. I believe it is some kind of maple but I could be wrong.

@Gnarf: Thanks so much for the visit and the comment. I'm not an expert on trees, but my understanding is that the maples are called "Acer palmatum" or Japanese maple or "momiji" (紅葉). They are so beautiful at any time of the year, partly because the Japanese gardners prune them into remarkably elegant shapes. Glad you enjoy them.
