I think this is a lovely tradition! It really does give every thing a clean fresh look and feeling! (And thank you so much for the really nice comments on my site! I'll keep you all posted on the health of my camera!)

After looking at this image and thinking about what is going on here, one thought just landed in my mind so strongly: In almost all of your images and all the things that we have been priveleged to see in your images of Japan, the thought occurs to me that one thing we are seeing (amongst many, and even in this image here) is the dedication and great care of all things...PRESERVATION: The preservation of tradition, the preservation of artifacts, buildings, humanity, thought, landscape, and nature. The concern and care for preservation ensures that these things, these people, these concepts will live on from one generation to the next. And the ONLY way that they will love on is if the actions and traditions are carried out in exactly the same way as they have for hundreds, or even thousands of years, perhaps. This thought is so astounding and enrichening at the same time...to see something here that has essentially been done in the same manner for centuries, proves that tradition and form are so very important. The great care that is taken to preserve and extend all things is formost. That is what I see in this picture...Thank you GJC.. It is becasue of you, that we see these things!!

She's dressed so beautifully to be doing that chore. Thank you for this little lesson in the culture of Japan. I like your sharing these tidbits with us.
