Thanks very much to all who left such thoughtful comments about composition on yesterday's image. Because composition is one of the most enjoyable parts of photography to me, it was very interesting to read how you work. Thanks for taking the time.

I espacialy appreciate the composition of your picture. It's so hard to render a mood in forest where the contrast are often poor. Here thanks to the little red pins, the different tones of green and, of course, the stone tower, there is a very still mood.

Amazing colours, as always... the subtlety of how you present the subject (the shrine) is just lovely!:-) Couldn't agree more that composing a shot is the enjoyable part of photography. IMO, this is how a good pic differentiates itself from an ordinary "snapshot of something one sees". I know those basic rules are certainly useful guidelines yet in the actual shooting, I seldom calculate and the feeling (the heart) is what dictates.

This is a good composition, speaking of which. I like the green, how it is enveloping the pagoda, or how the pagoda stands out from so much green :)
