How neat and ordered the rice plants are. They look so beautiful. There must be so much hard work involved too. Is this someone's small rice paddy to grow rice for personal consumption or do they sell it to make money too?

@cat: Thanks for the comment and the visit. Indeed, many of these small rice fields, quite common in the northern part of Kyoto, are for a family's consumption. If a family has extra rice, they will often give it away to friends, neighbors or extended family.
I like the juxtaposition of the grain with the house--the different colors, lines, textures, brightness. Perfect to have the tied sheaf (?) in the foreground.
