Rainy Day Rice Field

This was taken not far from one I posted a few days ago. From my apartment it's a 20-minute walk straight north, and worth every moment of the intense heat and humidity.

With the author continually drawn to this area, these photos seem to offer interior commentary of a biographical nature, placing the photographer's rich past tense heritage in and near the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina with the present and future tenses of life in Japan. I think I hear Flatt and Scruggs, the Foggy Mountain Boys, and Loretta....

@Russell: Ha! For a truly cross-cultural experience, please right click on this YouTube video while looking at this photo. Others may wish something a little more traditional, in which case I recommend this. And if you want a cross between old and new, you can't do better than "traditional" pop Japanese "enka" music (演歌) in which case try this by 氷川きよし (Hikawa Kiyoshi) or this by 天童よしみ(Tendo Yoshimi). Enough said.

I guess the D300 helps pushing the greens, but here the greens are outstandingly vivid! I love this landscape and its promises of life offerings...
