The division of space into “fragments” of almost equal proportion gives it a feeling of permanence, yet the directional lines also give it movement within that space. The flat simple areas of light inside contrast beautifully with the sliver of elaborate vegetation outside. As you can tell I like this composition very much.

I love the perspective of the tatamis and the textures of the wood, iron with the tatamis. I am less enthousiast about the vegetation may be because of vertical framing and the big difference between the half left and the half right (simplicity then complexity)

this image combined with your description on the next image give me a sense of what it must have been like for the original designer to walk through this area to his garden. the image stands on it's own as thoughtful and beautiful. it's also nice to have some background information to add to the appreciation.
