Shadows of IwakuraPosted by GJC (Kyoto, Japan) on 14 February 2009 in Architecture. This is about all that is left of the estate of Iwakura Tomomi (岩倉具視) a very important statesman during the second half of the nineteenth century. This house is where he spent a period of political exile from 1862 to 1867. What's left of the place is nearly a total wreck now and, judging by the surprise of the old caretaker who took my entrance fee, it doesn't seem to attract many visitors.
