Snow MeltPosted by GJC (Kyoto (京都), Japan) on 25 January 2009 in Landscape & Rural. It just so happens that I took a photo of this very same rock in the summer. I don't know exactly why this little rock and I like each other so well, but it always calls me like an old friend when I visit Jakko-in Temple (寂光院) in Ohara, and wants its photo taken.

grant from kansas city, United Statesi'm glad you added the note and link. i like this photo, but it's also good to see two of your takes on the same subject. 25 Jan 2009 5:43am shallowregret from Kongsberg, Norwayagree, it ties in with the summer one really well, what are those fishes doing now? 25 Jan 2009 8:59am @shallowregret: Thanks for the visit and the comment. You know, I don't know what happened to those fish. There were some others in the pond this time, but none of the beautiful carp that one sees in the summer. Perhaps someone here knows what happens to carp in the winter? Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomSometimes it just the simplicity of the placement of some object that calls out to us. I can see that I too would be drawn to a little rock such as this. 25 Jan 2009 11:11am Giovanni from Milan, ItalyA beautiful little rock in every season! Looks like a very peaceful place. Very nice capture! 25 Jan 2009 12:31pm Hikari from Kumamoto, JapanWell as I like fishing ... I just can say that carps are in the same place but in winter they reduce their activity and are highly vulnerable to predation. One survival strategy they employ is to inhabit seasonally anoxic (low oxygen) ponds where predators are unable to survive. 25 Jan 2009 12:57pm @Hikari: Thanks for that! And I thought it was that perhaps you'd fished them already. Well, I sometimes during winter feel like going someplace where predators are unable to survive, too, so it seems like a good plan. Thanks again. Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaBeautiful work with lovely natural colors. 25 Jan 2009 1:35pm EYES WIDE SHUT from United KingdomThe seasons change but the beauty remains. Very nicely observed 25 Jan 2009 3:01pm Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomI see this as a little island, it's a cool shot, very nice. 25 Jan 2009 3:41pm daina from New York, United StatesSummer and winter – both are beautiful. The water ripple in the winter image is a good stand in for the fish and provides movement and life. : } 25 Jan 2009 3:52pm Sugata from Newark, United StatesI simply love that rippled reflection on the left side of the photo! 25 Jan 2009 5:15pm jim from sebastopol, United Statesi agree, this rock is charming. to me, it seems a miniature world of it's own with the cedar seedling growing in the moss. 25 Jan 2009 5:53pm Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United StatesA beautiful image. The reflection of that cap of snow really adds a lot. Nicely seen. 25 Jan 2009 6:02pm Ronnie 2¢ from London, United KingdomVery much worth a revisit and the rock itself is like a world in miniature. A delightful record of the passing seasons. 25 Jan 2009 8:39pm Phototherapy from SwitzerlandI like passing on your blog, what a serenity, an invitation to rest, meditating... 25 Jan 2009 8:47pm Steve Rice from Olympia, United StatesIt's beautiful in either season. Although I would bet it would be very, very cold. 26 Jan 2009 1:33am cat from Tel Aviv, IsraelIt looks like a miniature mountain. Reminds me of that line of Blake's, "to see the world in a grain of sand". 26 Jan 2009 8:51am Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesLove the ripple on the water surface, and the snow too. The snows look like icing on a cupcake ;) 26 Jan 2009 9:29am Jon Whittle from United StatesI've always loved the use of ripples in the water in Japanese design, both real or representational. Very relaxing image made even more interesting by the slight disturbance. 26 Jan 2009 5:36pm Pixim from Nice, FranceA photograph which calls to meditation, and where clearness spouts out thanks to this rock Bravo ;) 27 Jan 2009 8:40pm michele from Canadait's good to have old friends in the landscape. and fun i think to photograph the same places again and again. both images are lovely. 27 Jan 2009 11:20pm Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanBoth captures of this small "landscaping rock" are a world in themselves, they have a poetry that people attuned to Japanese culture and artistry can feel like a "call"......so much the more for YOU who are located at the very core of what Japanese culture is: Kyoto!!!! 30 Jan 2009 3:05am Michael Rawluk from Williams Lake, BC, CanadaSuper shot. The colours, the gentle water. It all works together. 31 Jan 2009 8:24pm |
