Hints of Autumn: Late AfternoonPosted by GJC (Kyoto (京都), Japan) on 12 November 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture. This was taken at a Shinto shrine not too far from my house. The long rope is connected to a bell. If you ring the bell and throw some money in the grate on the door, the god will listen to your prayer. I didn't want to disturb him, however; the light was too lovely and I thought we'd just enjoy it quietly together. This is the first in a series of six examining some signs of autumn, particularly the wonderful light. Enjoy.
