@Gnarf: Thanks so much for the visit and the comment. I'm not an expert on trees, but my understanding is that the maples are called "Acer palmatum" or Japanese maple or "momiji" (紅葉). They are so beautiful at any time of the year, partly because the Japanese gardners prune them into remarkably elegant shapes. Glad you enjoy them.
