Silent Spring, 3

I'm immediately impressed, here, by the story you tell in the scale. In the foreground we have these enormous machines and in the mid-ground we have two diminutive members of the community who seem to be dwarfed by the scale in the foreground ... that is the sad tale of "silent spring."

The perspective stresses the hugeness of the machine. You hear how the tiny neighbors are discussing the power against which nothing seems to be resistent. A discoverey, this new theme, GJC!

...you and i both. my first apartment in japan, located in a beautiful, new apartment complex nestled in southern yokohama was also in an area ringed by hills. one day i was talking with some older folks who lived in the area, and they had ended up mentioning they kind of resented the apartment complex-- it had been built where a beautiful lotus pond once was.
hearing how they used to go to this pond as children to watch fireflies in the summer gave me a completely different perspective on the structures i took for granted; sometimes i wonder to myself: with the shrinking population here, why is it that they are penetrating more and more into the countryside?
