Because of work, I had the pleasure of a two-week stay in Shantou (汕頭) in southern China. So for the next week or so we'll be leaving Japan and traveling through the sights of Shantou and nearby Chaozhou (潮州). I decided against taking my Nikon d300 to save luggage space, and took instead my trusty and much-loved point-and-shoot Panasonic Lumix. Now I see, however, why I bought the Nikon! Darn. Well, despite all that, I hope you enjoy this little jaunt as much as I did. I only wish I'd had more time for photography and less work . . . But who among us wouldn't say the same.

Beautiful. :) I look forward to your shots of China!

Excellent framing! A really beautiful image.

Nice framing. You'll find a lot of thick door and window frames in traditional Chinese architecture. Like hanging an artwork in your home, looking out the window/door is like looking at a live painting.

Serenity combined with luxury and precious materials. Very well composed. Yes you are so right about time and work! I have also a point-and-shoot camera but you can adjust settings, and I'm very satisfied about the results. Maybe you can choose subjects suited for the simpler camera. I find this one very good, maybe the Nikon would have given more relief in the grey wall with the figures, but then you had to reduce it with photoshop because it distracts attention from the general composition :). So people remain busy, and this point-and-shoot device saves photoshop time too.

While your Lumix may not capture the exquisite detail with the sharpness of the Nikon, your wonderful eye and skill in composing shots is very present in this image. The light beyond the rounded entryway is beautiful and very inviting. I wish to enter...please.

Well, this is a nice composition and I look forward to see the rest! Always interested in Chinese architecture, gardens and history! Not to say anything about their ART!

Wonderfully composed view. I like it very much that the naturally given frame, here the temple building, is perfect... not too dark, so that one can see details, and not too bright, that would derange the scene. You've got the eye for this perfect photo !! Wys

nevertheless-- you captured a brilliant shot here. i absolutely love door shots-- but for me, part of the trouble in taking them usually comes from getting the exposure just right, so that some of the interior is distinct. you've done that quite well here; great image!

Of course your Nikon is much better than most of the digital cameras but your eye is still excellent in my opinion. Love to look at this image. Oh please more time for photography and less work :D Have a good time in China. Take care.

I LOVE the framing and the symmetry! The lighting is beautiful too! You always have a nice way of capturing lighting (even with a point and shoot!)
