Many thanks to all of you who have written such warm and encouraging words about this blog. I appreciate it more than I can possibly say and I feel very rewarded and energized that people take such pleasure from the images I've posted. Thank you very much. Many of you wrote inquiring about the meaning of the tablets in yesterday's image, and you'll find a response there if you're still interested. I am in the process of moving from the house I've rented for the last three years into a newer apartment. The owner will tear the house down, and I can't say that this tattered old place doesn't deserve a quiet rest. But in it reside the memories of some of the most profound events -- many happy and many very painful -- of my life, and I am loathe for it to be made a dust heap. My new place is great. But I will miss this old place, too, and this photo is my thank you and my goodbye to a lovely old home that has sheltered me and all the memories that I've made here. さようなら.
Cool Photoblogs
oh, I hope that you made lots of good memories in the old place and adjust well to the new place soon :)

I always love to read your writing and I hope you'll have a good and happy time with wonderful moments in the new apartement.// This image is so beautiful because it's perfectly composed and looking at it make me feel good. How ist the light in your new apartement, GJC? Will you see she shadows of the morning sun or of the evening sun? Can you see a tree if you look out of the window?

Good luck in your new home! I like the vague shadows combined with the crisp wooden framework, somehow symbolising what you said. This is also a wonderful composition with kind of geometry in it, I like it very much.

Oh- whew! When I first started reading I thought you weren't going to keep your blog going!
I love the worn mat. Always sad leaving a place... I still dream about my father's house that we finally had to sell.

you know-- i hate how people tear down buildings in this country instead of reinforcing them somehow; little by little, it just seems that the Japanese are losing their architectural heritage-- and it seems that the only people who really seem to care are the older folks and the gaijin. i suppose there's something to be said for "progress", in terms of safety-- but i reckon that the more that people tear down to make room for the new, i wonder-- will these photos be all that remains of the old?
and does your new place have tatami? ;-) prolly not, but i figure i'd ask anyhow. i really love the scent of tatami-- and how it feels in summer; when everything else feels so hot, it always seems to have just the right temperature

This is a nice and most emotional way to say farewell to your old place! My first 7 and a half years in Japan have been spent in what is called "usagi-goya", but I liked it very much ! Everything was in miniature and the experience with tatami was "thrilling" - it was old and it did not smell! Of course, I got fever in the muscles of my legs and doctor told me to buy a table and a chair and alternate sitting on tatami with sitting on a chair until I get better.I never got better and I was glad when I moved house and could use table and chair all the time! What I did for more than ten years was sleeping on futon, until my husband decided that I should have a bed!
