What a delightful image! 26 Feb 2008 3:05pm Ian Bramham from Manchester, United KingdomI just looked at the exif on this one....I'm right am I in thinking you were after a soft feel for this one with the iso3200 and f16 settings?....very unusual combination! 26 Feb 2008 3:08pm @Ian Bramham: Thanks for your visit. I admire you work so I appreciate your interest. Yes, I am always torn between wanting very sharp lines and also liking a softer feel. So compared to the previous post, this one is a little softer. I wanted to emphasize the dusty grays and for the white to be a little soft as well so tried this setting. Glad you like it. Illuci from Hurdegaryp, NetherlandsThere's nothing Japanese in the picture, nevertheless nothing could be more Japanese. What's the secret? 26 Feb 2008 11:05pm Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomVery lovely image, I like the way you work with hard and soft shapes, sometimes through form & texture, and at other times through texture and light. Every image carries with it a sense of the spiritual. 26 Feb 2008 11:47pm @Richard_Irwin: Thank you very much for your kind words. I guess others on this blog know how exciting it is when someone writes a comment that goes to the heart of your photographic experience, so I probably don't need to explain how your comment encourages me. But I do want to thank you. This blogging community has been terrific for me, and to know that some folks appreciate and see something in these modest photos is more satisfying than I can say. akarui from Kagoshima, JapanNice details and textures. Just enough blur to soften the hardness of lines. I should ask for the meaning of those white paper decorations. As it is a very graphic composition I am very sure that you have think about it. Is it a kind of invert T? I try to understand why you have include so much of the grey wood below. 27 Feb 2008 3:04am @akarui: Thanks for your note. I'm sure you've seen these papers (called "gohei" [御幣]) around where you live in Kagoshima; they are a Shinto sign of purity and, in addition to their spiritual qualities, are graphically very impressive. Lucca from Cologne, GermanyThis is brilliant, GJC. I like how soft see wood looks and the cleaness of light blue in contrast. 27 Feb 2008 8:25am drphoto from Newcastle upon Tyne, United KingdomThis is a beautiful shot; delicate yet bold - strangely captivating.
