It doesn't look like a rice field... I guess other things are grown as well in Japan ;) I like those small cute farm houses, nice shot!

Wow ... such beautiful layering ... the eye is drawn into such a beautiful tour of the Kyoto landscape with all its textures, tones and elevations ... really beautiful.
